Title: The Secret Garden

Author:  Frances Hodgson Burnett

Publisher: William Heinemann

The Secret Garden is a beautifully written book about two selfish, disagreeable English cousins -- Mary and Colin -- whose lives and dispositions are transformed when they find their way into a locked, walled garden. Friendship and the restorative powers of nature help the children gain good spirits and health.

I really like the book, as it is fascinating to see Mary change from a horrible, spoiled brat to a sweet-hearted girl. The best scene is probably when Mary first finds the garden that is hidden for a decade, as the description left such a clear image in my mind.

A stunning new edition with deluxe cover treatments, ribbon markers, luxury endpapers and gilded edges. The unabridged text is accompanied by a Glossary of Victorian and Literary terms produced for the modern reader.

An enduring children’s classic, The Secret Garden (1911) is as enchanting as it is moving. Orphaned after the death of her parents in a cholera epidemic, Mary Lennox is sent from India to her uncle’s home in England, the remote Misselthwaite Manor. Alienated from her surroundings, she initially takes against the cold, gloomy house and the seemingly barren Yorkshire landscape. However, her spirits begin to improve as she sets out in search of the manor’s long-neglected secret garden. As Mary unlock the mysteries of her new home, a powerful tale of redemption and regeneration unfolds.

The FLAME TREE COLLECTABLE CLASSICS are chosen to create a delightful and timeless home library.
